“Ever had a knee give out at the worst possible moment?

Peter Brewer has! In “Running Out of Saturdays,” he recounts the hilarious tale of his knee suddenly locking up at Facebook HQ. Seemingly with no travel insurance and facing a potential DIY surgery, Brewer’s quick wit and knack for finding humor in the most absurd situations shine through. From contemplating self-amputation to using his best negotiating skills with a travel insurance nurse with a mischievous glint in his eye, this chapter is a rollercoaster of laughter and unexpected solutions. Get ready for a side-splitting adventure as Brewer proves that even a ‘Man Down’ can find a way back up – with a healthy dose of humor!”

"A mix of laughter, tears, and joy - the rollercoaster that life is, filled with passion, emotion, courage, self-doubt, fragility and much more! Best seller in the making I say! I look forward to catching up with you before you win a Pulitzer or Nobel Prize"

Here’s a chapter to keep you warm til July’s publication date:

A little about me & Saturdays

My life has been an absolutely magnificent journey. I’ve had the fortune to meet some incredible people and experience things beyond my wildest dreams. At 65, I can see the curtains on my life are slowly closing inch by inch, whether in one year or 20.

I don’t know how history or St. Peter will judge me. Frankly, Over time I’ve learned to care less about the judgement of others. It’s kinda been how I’ve approached the last 20 years of my life. I’ve become very comfortable in my own skin. I’ve learned to dismiss the detractors. It takes lots of self-reflection and self-affirmation to get to that happy place where you’re totally comfortable with yourself.

On that journey, I met amazing people and shared some breathtaking experiences. I’ve also encountered more than my fair share who could do with a little more reflection and a whole lot less time stroking their self-affirmation! (Get my drift?) But isn’t that part of life’s beauty? Learning, forming your own views, finding your tribe, and determining your niche and where you can make a difference through it all.

Life has been kind to me, and I think I’ve been kind to life.

I know that I’ve had an absolute blast every step of the way. Every win, however glorious and every loss, however small,  has taught me something. I’m thankful for those lessons and experiences.

My various careers have brought me incredible personal satisfaction. One of my Mum’s teachings as a child was, “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.”  I hope my life made her proud.

I do not claim to be a prolific author, a Ganesha, or a Gandhi-like figure. I’m just an ordinary boy from the ‘burbs who gave life a good crack and through this memoir decided he’d like to share a few of his stories for his grandkids in the hope that they might one day learn a little bit more about their silly old Poppa B and how he spent his days.

Why the title?

While every day in the week has its own charm, there’s something special about a Saturday.

Having worked on Saturdays for 30+ years in real estate, I learned to savour the rare free ones I had. There was so much anticipation about the freedom a Saturday offered.

Saturdays bring happiness. A gateway to week’s end. The opportunity to lounge with friends, watch your favourite footy team do battle, or loiter in a hardware store buying important stuff you didn’t ever really need.

Saturdays are unique. Saturday draws its name from Saturn. Is it therefore blind coincidence we so often put a ring around a Saturday?

Even the word Saturday sounds friendly. In my 3284 of them, I’ve never ever heard anyone refer to Saturdayitis.

The life experience I share is that Saturdays are ours to be enjoyed. As a child, I remember shops closing at noon on Saturday. The banks and car yards were closed. Pubs, parks, and beer gardens came alive.  Theatres and clubs had matinee sessions to deal with the increased Saturday patronage. Streets came alive with the symphony of lawnmowers and leaf blowers.

Slowly, our society and demand for everything 24/7 has undermined the sacred time a Saturday has historically offered, when it should be a day to recharge the battery and fill your spiritual cup.

Ah, Saturday.

The message is abundantly clear, dear Reader. Savour your Saturdays. Inhale whatever they lay at your feet. They’re totally yours to do with as you like.

But remember, we’re all counting every day down together at exactly the same pace and faster than you realise. Yes, we’re all….

Running out of Saturdays.
